Project Update -- see also 2009 projects

The District’s Operation and Maintenance Department is working on a number of system upgrade projects. The purpose of the work is to replace, rehabilitate and/or improve the water and sewer infrastructure to meet the District’s goal of providing reliable utility service to your home. Some of the projects include:

·    Replacement of water mains and laterals.  This is by far the District’s largest project and will start in June and continue through October 2009.  For more information click this link .

·    Television inspection of 15,000 feet of the gravity sewer system will start in late April. The inspection will identify areas of Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) due to cracks and off-set pipe joints, sags that allow the buildup of grease and solids that could cause a spill and other conditions that require attention.  Once the inspection is complete, a repair sleeve will be inserted into the pipe, using the camera system, to stop the I&I.

·    A contractor has been hired to upgrade the electrical controls at the main sewage export station on Hemlock to provide increased pumping reliability and emergency redundancy. Once the controls have been changed a new pump will replace one originally installed approximately 25 years ago.

·    A project to upgrade the computer and monitoring system that controls the water pumping and filter plant is scheduled to begin in April.

·    The District will continue the third year of a program to replace existing fire hydrants that are no longer repairable because the manufacturer is out of business. An added benefit of the replacement is the new hydrants meet all Truckee Fire Department requirements

·    Sewer manholes and water valve boxes that are lower than the surrounding street pavement will be adjusted upward and repaired.

·     The barrels and channels in some of the sewer manholes are beginning to fail due to age and the gasses given off by the raw sewage. A program to repair the concrete using a spray-on application of a mortar type product designed for this application will occur in the Fall when flows are at the minimum.
