Above Ground Projects:
Electrical control boxes are being replaced.

Transfer switches are being installed in pump houses 2 & 4 (see sewage map) so an emergency generator can be attached.

Power coming directly from PG&E is being installed in pump houses 2 & 4. Previously power came from other
SLCWD facilities using underground wiring is becoming unreliable with age.

Telemetry is being improved. Each SLCWD water/sewage facility has small radios that allow operators to monitor and control pump activity and tank levels. In emergencies the radios can call the operators' cell phones. This upgrade will allow for better monitoring and control.

The DSPUD sewage plant required upgrading due to new state requirements for ammonia and nitrate removal.
This upgrade will finally cost SLCWD $3,000,000 for its 44% ownership of the sewage treatment plant.

Below Ground Projects:
SLCWD will be testing water mains during the 06-07 winter analyzing leak histories, (reducing leaks reduces the cost of treating water), pipe sizes (e.g. to make sure there is sufficient flow for hydrants), and to assess the condition of street mains and laterals to homeowners' water meters/street shut off valves. Since the design life of some parts of Serene Lakes has been exceeded, replacement of galvanized laterals and asbestos cement mains with polyethylene will become necessary first in Ice Lakes 1 & 2 and later in other subdivions (see subdivision map)

The condition of the sewage system must also be assessed. Over the next two - three years all pipes will be "TV'd". The inventorying program will devise a program to upgrade the sewage system perhaps by relining pipes with plastic and digging up and a replacing sags, breaks and inflow/infiltration spots in the system.

Because of the work needed for the aging system, SLCWD has opened a line of credit for $8,000,000. This will enable improvements to be made to the water and sewer systems before any catastrophic failures occur. Waiting for failures to occur will cost more in repairs and safety for customers.

SLCWD is engaged in a number of projects to improve service and operations for customers in the district.
